Description

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) is a digital video/audio interface technology, which is a dedicated digital interface suitable for image transmission, which can transmit audio and image signals at the same time, with a maximum data transmission speed of 48Gbps (version 2.1). There is also no need for digital/analog or analog/digital conversion before signal transmission. HDMI can be combined with Broadband Digital Content Protection (HDCP) to prevent unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted audio-visual content. The additional space provided by HDMI can be applied to future upgraded audio and video formats. And because a 1080p video and an 8-channel audio signal require less than 0.5GB/s, HDMI still has a lot of headroom. This allows it to connect the DVD player, receiver and PLR separately with one cable.

HDMI cable is a fully digital image and sound transmission line that can be used to transmit audio and video signals without any compression. Mainly used in plasma TV, high-definition player, LCD TV, rear projection TV, projector, DVD recorder/ amplifier, D-VHS recorder / receiver and digital audio and video display device video and audio signal transmission.

Each of the higher versions is forward compatible, with version 1.4 supporting 3D capabilities and supporting networking capabilities.

HDMI has the advantages of small size, high transmission rate, wide transmission bandwidth, good compatibility, and simultaneous transmission of uncompressed audio and video signals. Compared with the traditional full analog interface, HDMI not only increases the convenience of indirect wiring of devices, but also provides some intelligent functions unique to HDMI, such as consumer electronic control of CEC and extended display identification EDID. The HDMI cable is made up of 19 wires. An HDMI system consists of an HDMI transmitter and receiver. Devices that support the HDMI interface typically have one or more interfaces, and each HDMI input of the device must conform to the specifications for the sender and each HDMI output must conform to the specifications for the receiver. The 19 lines of the HDMI cable consist of four pairs of differential transmission lines that make up the TMDS data transmission channel and the clock channel. These 4 channels are used to transmit audio signals, video signals, and auxiliary signals. In addition, HDMI features a VESA DDC channel, the Display Data Channel, which enables the exchange of status information between the source and the receiver for configuration, allowing the device to output in the most appropriate way.

In general: the computer with the HDMI output port is the HDMI signal source, and the TV with the HDMI input port is the receiver. When the computer and the TV are connected through the HDMI cable, it is equivalent to the TV becoming the second display of the computer.

Only one HDMI cable is required to transmit audio and video signals simultaneously, rather than multiple cables to connect, and higher audio and video transmission quality can be achieved because there is no need for digital/analog or analog/digital conversion. For consumers, HDMI technology not only provides clear picture quality, but also greatly simplifies the installation of home theater systems due to the audio/video using the same cable.
