2.4G and 5G should not be combined

2.4G and 5G are not recommended to combine; Because of the advantages and disadvantages of dual-band integration, some mobile phones may be difficult to connect to dual-band WIFI; For the general wireless router if there is no weak signal rejection function, then after turning on the dual-band one, the mobile phone may always be connected to the 2.4G band, and will not switch to the faster 2.4G band at all, unless the WIFI is manually switched on/off, so it is recommended to set it separately.

Should 2.4G and 5G be combined?

Dual-band routers have become popular, and some mainstream routers have begun to support dual-band technology, that is, 2.4G and 5G WiFi use the same SSID to broadcast, and the end device automatically switches to 2.4G or 5G according to the signal and rate. So, is it better to merge dual-band or separate, and what are the disadvantages of combining 2.4G and 5G?

The difference, advantages and disadvantages of 2.4G and 5G:

First of all, you need to understand that WIFI 2.4G and 5G refer to a frequency band of radio waves.

Radio waves have a characteristic, the lower the frequency, the smaller the loss in the propagation process, so the wider the coverage, the higher the frequency, the opposite.

Difference 1: 2.4G coverage is wider than 5G. The 2.4GHz band is relatively unaffected by obstacles, so the transmission distance of the signal is relatively long. However, throughput is limited by downward compatibility, and it is difficult to plan a network with only 3 channels.

Difference 2: The channels in the 5G band do not overlap with each other. 5GHz has 13 channels, do not overlap each other, plus the current 5G band equipment is not very much, so the 5G band is like our highway, only cars and there are not many cars, and our 2.4G band, in addition to routers there are wireless headphones, mice, keyboards, microwave ovens, etc. are in this frequency band, so the 2.4G band is like the roads of our city, not only cars, but also tricycles, pedestrians, etc., it is very crowded.

Is dual-frequency integration necessary?

The dual-band function began to appear on the router, that is, the 2.4G and 5G WIFI signals were combined into one signal, only an SSID and password were set, and then the device could intelligently select the frequency band to access and automatically switch. Mobile phones give priority to using the 5G frequency band, and only automatically switch to the 2.4G frequency band with stronger penetration and longer transmission distance when the 5G signal is weak.

However, the current problem is that although the general router can manually set the dual-band integration, the mobile phone will not intelligently switch after connecting to a frequency band. For example, in the bedroom, the mobile phone automatically connects to the strong signal 2.4G signal, when the mobile phone approaches the living room router, the 2.4G and 4G signals are strong, the mobile phone is still connected to the slower 2.4G, will not automatically switch to the faster 5G signal.

Summary:

There are pros and cons to dual-band integration, and some mobile phones may have difficulty connecting to dual-band WiFi. For general wireless routers if there is no weak signal rejection function, then after turning on dual-band integration, the mobile phone may always be connected to the 2.4G band, and will not switch to the faster 2.4G frequency band at all, unless you manually switch WIFI. Therefore, it is recommended to set them separately, such as Food, Food_5G, and connect 5G in the living room and 2.4G in the bedroom.
